Ericsson pushes wireless mobiles to 84Mbps Bernard Cole Stockholm, Sweden – To keep ahead of the demand for faster and faster data traffic rates on mobile networks, driven by driven by the use of smartphones, laptops and other devices Ericsson has developed technology that will drive wireless speeds up to 84 megabits per second. To be shown first at the upcoming Mobile World Congress, the prototypes with the new circuit technology will be roughly twice that of what it demonstrated at the same show last year and 50 percent faster than what it demonstrated at the recent CTIA show last year in Las Vegas, Nev. “Our driving force is to fulfill consumers' need to social networking, online gaming and video conferencing, just to mention a few services, on the move," said Marie Westrin, head of radio development in Ericsson. Rollout of systems using the new high speed wireless technology will be in Denmark and four major cities in Sweden, starting in about a month. Commercial deployments of HSPA with 84Mbps around the world can be expected the first half of 2011, according to the company. To learn more, go to www.ericsson.com.
