First Look: Google launches its Nexus One iPhone killer Bernard Cole Mountain View, Ca. – Google’s long anticipated has been officially launched this week, manufactured by HTC Corp.in compliance with Google specs. Available first for use on T-Mobile, Verizon and Vodaphone, the Android-based device is powered by 1GHz chipset and features a 480x800 pixel AMOLED display, voice-enabled keyboard, 5 megapixel camera, and MPEG4 video with one-click YouTube upload. Through the web store found at www.google.com/phone, consumers can buy the Nexus One without service (meaning any GSM network SIM card can be inserted into the device), or purchase the phone with service from one of Google's operator partners. According to Andy Rubin, VP of Engineering at HTC, the Nexus One belongs in the emerging class of devices which he calls ‘superphones,’ with the 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset making it as powerful as laptop computers of three to four years ago. Only 11.5 mm thick and weighing only 130 grams, Nexus one come with 512MB Flash and 512MB RAM as on board memory, expandable to 4-32 GB ith a removable SD Card. Incorporating a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack with four contacts for inline voice and remote control, the Nexus One is powered by a removable 1400 mAh battery. Nexus One’s Android 2.1 operating system incorporates Google Maps Navigation, multiple Gmail accounts; universal inbox and Exchange support, a phone book and access to more than 18,000 applications. Among its new unctionality and software enhancements are the ability to enter text without typing, use a voice-enabled keyboard for all text fields, Google searchability, transcribed voicemail with Google Voice integration, without changing your number. Nexus One is initially available from the Google web store in the US without service for $529 or starting at $179 with a two-year contract from T-Mobile USA.
