IBM/Checkpoint/Corrent intro 3-Gb/s security cardBy Patrick Mannion
The hardware and software solution comes on a PCI adapter card that off-loads firewall connection, handling and IPSec encryption for VPNs from the host-server's CPU.
The SecureXL Turbocard is based on Corrent's S3500 security line card that combines Corrent's CR7120 Packet Armor security processor with IBM's NP4GS3 PowerNP network processor. Check Point then adds its patented SecureXL softare framework for enterprises and service providers that shifts computationally intensive processes to dedicated acceleration devices.
The Turbocard can be deployed as an add-on for servers and "Secured by Check Point" appliances running Check Point's VPN-1(r)/FireWall-1 Next Generation solution.
"With Check Point's SecureXL technology we can drive multiple security functions, such as NAT and encryption, to the line card, thereby relieving the server to run other security operations," said Richard Takahashi, president of Corrent Corporation.
The card has 3-Gbit Ethernet interfaces and will be available in Q2 2003 through Check Point resellers for $15,000
