Fairfax, Va. -- Wearable computer specialist Xybernaut this week announced a flat-panel computer that can be used as either a stand-alone pen tablet device or as a wireless display.

The double duty computer is called the Atigo M and  includes 802.11b wireless LAN networking support and an 8.4-inch high-resolution touch screen that can be viewed under a variety of lighting conditions.

The 1.8-pound system starts at $1,795 and is powered by an Intel Xscale 400 MHz processor and includes 128MB SDRAM. In addition to built-in 16-bit sound microphone/speaker and a stereo headphone jack, which is standard on Atigo products, Edward G. Newman, chairman, president and CEO of Xybernaut, said the device offers enhanced support for multimedia, specifically high quality video. In addition, it offers an optional, hot-swappable external battery that can double the three-hour run-time of the internal, rechargeable Lithium-ion batteries.

The Atigo L and M models run on Microsoft Windows CE .NET, versus the original Atigo runs on CE 3.0. All three support wireless or wired communications through built-in CompactFlash and PC card slots, and include multiple USB ports and RF transmitters.

A variety of accessories are available, including desktop charging cradle, AC charger, car charger, and wireless keyboard/mouse options.
