LONDON - Kada Systems Inc. has just launched the Mobile Developer Network, an online community where mobile Java embedded and small footprint computing and communications developers can collaborate and exchange information. The company also announced the availability of a Pocket PC 2002 version of the Kada Mobile Platform.

The online network is intended to provide developers with a central location of information and technology, as well as a community to collaborate on mobile Java application development.

"Developing mobile J2ME applications that meet the current market needs is demanding," said Tom O'Connell, vice president of sales and alliances for Kada Systems (Boston). "Through the MDN we hope to connect the large, dispersed community of mobile application developers, device manufacturers and mobile platform suppliers and facilitate a valuable knowledge exchange"

Kada is charging an annual subscription to access the Mobile Developer Network at the company's Web site, where users can access to a dowload center, knowledge base, help desk and deployment center.

Kada provides certified J2ME software deployment solutions for mobile device developers, suppliers and manufacturers, and through the Mobile Developer Network, aims to connect this community to enable real-time discussions on development.

Kada has developed a fully optimized and compliant Java Virtual Machine for the Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) from Sun Microsystems Inc. Through the MDN, developers will have access to the Kada Mobile Platform for J2ME (CLDC/MIDP) on Windows desktop environments and Pocket PC 2002 platforms.

Support for additional mobile operating systems, such as PalmOS and other J2ME configurations and profiles, will be available for download through the MDN in the current quarter.

Kada maintains there is a huge opportunity and need to provide OS-agnostic development opportunities for the mobile device industry to allow companies to leverage existing technology investments across multiple platforms and device types. To achieve this the company plans to transform the traditional reference design into an integrated platform on which developers can base new designs.
