LSI supports Linux in its home gateway chipsetBy Robert Keenan
Released in August 2002, the HomeBASE chipset combines the AR8202 analog front-end IC with integrated line driver, the AR9000 network processor, and the 10225 Fast Ethernet PHY. External flash memory and SDRAM are also required to make the chipset function in a gateway design.
To compliment its hardware base, LSI is now adding a Linux-based software package in a reference design developed around the HomeBASE chipset. This software package includes Ethernet routing, bridging, network address translation (NAT), firewall, PPPoE, and DHCP capabilities. The software solution also includes device drivers for a variety of external interfaces including segmentation and reassembly (SAR), DMT, and Fast Ethernet.
