Alameda, Ca. -- Following the lead of companies such as Motorola, Texas Instruments, Microsoft and Develop OnLine, Wind River has unveiled an online board support package resource center to support embedded and small foot print iappliance developers during the design process.

Located at http://www.windriver.com/products/bsp_web/index.html the interactive Web site offers detailed BSP technical specifications, online discussions and download capabilities.

A BSP provides the collection of start-up code, device drivers and debugging features packaged as a standardized interface between hardware and an embedded operating system.

Previous to the emergence of such sites, developers embarking on a new product design spent valuable time researching for compatible hardware through a variety of mechanisms, including an array of sites with varying amounts of information scattered across the Internet. According to industry estimates, the time lost search for BSPs contributes to the fact that 58% of products are late to market.

Where some other similar sites offer a range of software packages in support of some very specific hardware platforms, the Wind River site is designed as a single, comprehensive repository for a variety of BSPs supported by Wind Rivers's tools, development environment and operating systems.
