Metrowerks on Monday introduced Java support for its CodeWarrior tool used in building applications on handheld computers.

The company added PersonalJava support to its CodeWarrior Wireless Studio 7, PDA Edition, enabling developers to build Java applications for a variety of handheld devices, including the Sharp Zaurus, Pocket PC handhelds such as the Hewlett-Packard iPAQ, and the Sony Ericsson P800 Symbian phone.

The development software includes a version of the Insignia PersonalJava Virtual machine, with bug tracking enabled. It also includes Metrowerks's launch/debug agent and debugger. The tools are designed to enable customers to test and debug applications directly on the device.

The software will be available Dec. 20 priced at $599, with a $200 discount available through Jan. 31 by ordering the product direct from Metrowerks.

Go to www.metrowerks.com/mw/default.htm for more information on this product.
