Boston, Ma. -- The EmberNet product suite is a family of hardware and software products and development tools for embedded wireless networking.

Optimized for sensing and control applications requiring moderate bandwidth, EmberNet products are suitable for harsh environments such as water treatment plants, manufacturing lines, and power stations.

EmberNet products employ a patented routing algorithm that establishes a “mesh” networking architecture. EmberNet networks automatically route traffic around many kinds of interference. The network is distributed and self-organizing; it does not require a central server.

Operating in the 915MHz ISM band, the hardware components of an EmberNet network use a direct sequence spread spectrum radio with twelve channels and support for the advanced encryption standard (EAS). Each device employs the EmberNet Protocol Stack, which includes an API and the routing algorithm mentioned above.

Suite components
EmberNet Node is a microcontroller and radio chipset that runs the protocol stack. It's used with an external processor on which developers can write application-specific sensing and control software. EmberNet Gateway is a Linux-based hardware device that enables communication between an EmberNet network and TCP/IP networks. It also runs EmberNet View, which provides visibility into the network. The EmberNet Serial Node supports RS-232 and RS-485 serial interfaces and can be connected to instrumentation products, instantly creating an EmberNet network. The serial node comes with the Modbus RTU protocol and provides end users with the ability to retrofit serial devices with wireless communications. Finally, The EmberNet Developer Kit facilitates the design of application-specific programs to run over an EmberNet network. It consists of Nodes, Gateways, and development tools, including a service-aware API and node simulation tools.

The EmberNet product suite is available now.
