BRECIS and Intoto Platform for Security AppliancesBy Jeff Michalski
Embedded security has become a requirement for communication equipment, including enterprise security appliances, broadband gateways, wireless access points, and integrated access devices, among other multi-service network equipment. The partnership between BRECIS Communications and Intoto, Inc. delivers a comprehensive, integrated security solution on a choice of operating systems including VxWorks and embedded Linux.
Intoto's iGateway Firewall and VPN solutions offer full-featured security functionality. The CyberDefenseEngine in Intoto's ICSA-certified iGateway Firewall protects against a large number of Internet attacks including DoS, DDoS, and reassembly attacks plus has built-in NAT with support for a wide range of Application Level Gateways (ALGs). The iGateway VPN solution is a complete IP-VPN implementation including IPSec, IKE and PKI and is certified by ICSA and VPNC for interoperability and conformance.
Using the MSP2000 multi-service processor and off-the-shelf iGateway Firewall and VPN software solution, manufacturers can rapidly build multi-service equipment with security. The MSP2000 features a high-performance RISC processor for applications and management, on-chip random number generation, a high-speed, 3 gigabit-per-second (Gbps) multi-service bus, a 266Mbps security engine, and three concurrent 10/100 Ethernet MACs -- capable of supporting LAN, WAN, and DMZ ports without additional components. This chip can replace as many as five separate components in existing network security devices. |
