Planetweb Deploys Java Technology for Gaming

Planetweb released its first complete Java technology application for the game console market. The inclusion of PersonalJava technology as part of the Planetweb Internet Browser v3.0 for the Sega Dreamcast console sets the stage for the deployment of the Java technology-enabled implementation across all Planetweb-enabled devices, from other gaming consoles to DVD players and set-top boxes.

Planetweb brings the power of open standards development and a small footprint to consumer electronics manufacturers, allowing them to easily add on applications that enhance their customers' enjoyment of a device. The PersonalJava platform also enables Planetweb and other developers to create Java technology-based applications for multiple consumer electronic devices, regardless of platform, and to deliver more dynamic and interactive content to end users.

The Planetweb Internet Browser v3.0 is now available to the four million Sega Dreamcast users with new Java technology-enabled features, including instant messaging and the InstantOn Personal Portal, which automatically delivers fresh and relevant content to the user's start page.
