Ottawa, Canada -- Espial released Espial Escape 4.8, a Java browser that offers a scalable configuration that can accommodate the memory requirements of a range of devices. Escape 4.8 allows developer to disable or enable support for certain Internet standards so that the browser can be tailored to run in resource-constrained designs or offer full functionality for other more powerful devices.

The scaled-down configuration provides HTML-only support to resource-limited devices. This uses as little as one-third the memory of the full configuration. With no programming changes, the same core browser can be configured to offer browsing functionality including HTML 4.0, JavaScript, CSS, XML, and multimedia capabilities for other more powerful devices.

As well as offering a scalable configuration, Espial claims extensibility, adding support for WML, XSLT, and online help to the latest version of Escape. Escape 4.8 maintains features popular with the television market such as fit to screen-width, minimum font sizes (font flooring), zoom controls, and pointerless (2D) navigation.

Espial Escape 4.8 is currently shipping.
