Presenting PowerPoint on the Pocket PCBy Laura Jean
The application supports PowerPoint 2000, however, some features --- speaker's notes, slide animations, builds and transitions, sounds, and embedded OLE objects --- are not supported. Minimum system requirements for the Pocket PC are MS Windows CE 3.0, 1.7 MB free in main memory, space for generated presentations, and a CompactFlash card. The desktop must have a 133 MHz Pentium processor or equivalent, MS Windows, and ActiveSync 3.1 or later.
Mobile professionals can go to Presenter's Web site (http://www.presenter.com), and download the iPresentation Mobile Converter Preview software to their PC or notebook. Once installed, the iPresentation Mobile Converter Preview provides transparent conversion of PowerPoint files through the native drag-and-drop ActiveSync mechanism provided by Microsoft. Once the user drags their PowerPoint file into the ActiveSync folder, the file gets converted and transferred to the Pocket PC device without any need for user intervention. Presenter's converter also compresses images to maximize storage capacity on the Pocket PC device.
The conversion and transfer of slides from the PC and into the Pocket PC take seconds for most presentations. The user can display slides on their Pocket PC in landscape mode and navigate through the presentation via the iPresentation Mobile Player using an automatically generated table of contents or thumbnail images of the presentation slides.
PowerPoint slides can be stored at high-resolution and via a PCMCIA VGA adaptor card displayed on monitors and projectors. Currently, the only card supported by the iPresentation Mobile Player is the Voyager VGA card for Pocket PC from Colorgraphic. |
