Who needs mobility in today's workplace? Most occupations have people sitting behind their desks typing away at their computers all day, right? Wrong. Many workers, like insurance agents, hospital staff, delivery services, and field personnel, have the need to be far, far away from a desk and an Internet connection - but they still need the ability to communicate and work as though they were still sitting at that desk. This is where mobile devices like the AquaPAD come in. ![]() The AquaPAD is a web tablet created around the Windows CE 3.0 operating system. With it, users can operate Pocket Word, Internet Explorer, and Media Player software, as well as use ClearVue software to view Power Point presentations and Excel worksheets. The 8.4 inch TFT touchscreen gives presentation at a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels. With two USB ports, you can attach a mouse and keyboard if you would rather not use handwriting recognition for input, and PCMCIA and CompactFlash card slots are also available for those items that are just a bit too big for the AquaPAD's internal memory. FIC gives you 32 MB of Compact Flash and 128 MB SDRAM to work with there. It is powered by a 500 MHz Transmeta TM 5400/5600 processor and a Lithium-ion battery. Besides basic beaming capabilities using IrDA, you can add an 802.11b PC Card in the card slot for WLAN. It is also created to be compatible with GPS navigation and will support PHS and GPRS in the future. The AquaPAD measures 274 x 164 x 26.7 mm and weighs 1.15 kg. Pricing and Availability The AquaPAD is currently available. Check the FIC web page for pricing specifications.
