The Firebox 1000's security features include security proxies and dynamic stateful packet filtering, which intercepts Internet traffic, inspects and re-assembles the packet stream to remove any dangerous commands and attachments, and then blocks or modifies the content before it can enter your network. Additional security features include URL filtering, WebBlocker, virus protection using McAfee VirusScan, support for up to 1000 concurrent high-speed IPSec VPN tunnels, and NAT.

To manage the Firebox 1000 you can use the Control Center management tool. With it, you can configure your system, implement your security policies, and monitor the status of your installed network services from a central location inside or outside your trusted network. Management is easily conducted through a Web-based user interface.

The Linux-based Firebox 1000 runs on an AMD K6-2E 300 MHz processor with 64 MB SDRAM and 8 MB Flash Disk. It measures 15.5 x 2.85 x 10.5 inches and weighs 8 lbs.
