Red normally indicates alarm, but with the Watchguard SOHO 2.3, it is actually more indicative of calm. A gateway and firewall all in one, this brightly colored device lets you rest assured that your network will be not only networked securely, but securely networked. ![]() The Watchguard SOHO 2.3 comes with a year of LiveSecurity Service which provides you with software updates, threat responses, and technical support, so that all of the network defenses will be kept up-to-date. And the SOHO 2.3 comes with plenty of defenses. Installed between your cable/DSL or ISDN router and your network, the Watchguard SOHO 2.3's stateful packet filtering and firewall technology will allow you to create filter rules based on port and protocol to limit both inbound and outbound traffic. So if you choose this Web access control technology, you can keep workers working. (Theoretically, at least.) And as for networking, you will be able to share Cable, DSL, or ISDN connections, files, printer connections, and other peripherals between up to 10 computers. Connections are made through one RJ45 10BaseT Ethernet interface for WAN connectivity, or four RJ45 10BaseT Ethernet interfaces for LAN connectivity. Virtual Private Networking (VPN) capabilities will allow you to share information with other offices and partners via a secure Internet connection. Management of the system is easily maintained through pretty much standard browsers, including Netscape Navigator 4.0 and Internet Explorer 4 and higher. The SOHO 2.3 is compatible with Windows 95/98/2000/NT 4.0, Apple Macintosh, Linux, and Unix operating systems. The Watchguard SOHO 2.3 uses a Toshiba TMRP3907 processor, and comes with 4 MB SDRAM and 1 MB Flash memory. The bright red box measures 6.5 x 1.0 x 6.1 in and weighs 10 ounces. Pricing and Availability The Watchguard SOHO 2.3 is currently available for around $370.
